Austin C Dowling

AUSTIN C. DOWLING, of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on Sunday, April 8th, 2018.  Born in Alameda, CA, he is the son of the late Thomas and Alice Dowling.  Austin attended Stanford University, receiving a B.A. Economics (’54) and M.B.A. (’58).  He served in the U.S. Army from 1955 to 1957.  After completing his MBA he found success in finance including positions at Union Bank, Scudder Stevens & Clark and William E. Pollock & Co.  He completed his career as the Director of the Office of Finance of Federal Home Loan Bank System from 1984 to 1991.  He enjoyed many years of peaceful retirement with his wife Susan on Long Beach Island and in the welcoming community of Medford Leas.  He will always be remembered for his love of a good story, gardening dangerously spicy peppers, sailing undersized boats and fishing quietly as the sun rises.  Austin is the Beloved Husband of Susan W. Dowling (Nee Wakeley) of Medford, NJ, and the Loving Father of Timothy Dowling of Austin, TX, and Susan Benson (Nee Dowling) of Van Buren, OH.  He is the Loving Grandfather of Alex, Sam, Sarah, Dean and Ace.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family asks that donation be made in Autin’s name to the Medford Leas Residents Assistance Fund, via Jane Weston, Director of Development and Community Relations, Medford Leas, One Medford Leas Way, Medford, NJ  08055.  (www.BradleyStow.com)
