Jane Elizabeth (Fisher) Spivack

July 24, 1925 ~ November 19, 2014 (age 89) 89 Years Old

Jane Elizabeth Spivack died on Wednesday, November 19th 2014 at her home in Medford Leas, NJ. She was 89 years old. Preceded in death by her husband George, who died on April 2nd 2014, Jane is survived by her sons, Jonathan and Jason, their wives Dana Gish and Rene Micheli, respectively, and her four grandchildren, Sophia, Elle, Lelu and River.  Jane was born July 24th 1925 in the Bronx, N.Y.C. to Harry and Marie Fisher.  She graduated at the age of 16 from Walton High School in N.Y. in 1941. Subsequent education delayed due to the war, in 1944 she took part in a training program for civilians who wanted to learn to fly.  After the war Jane attended Hunter College in N.Y. where she graduated with honors and was accepted into the Masters degree program in Anthropology at Columbia University.  In 1951 she married George Spivack, whom she had met while at Hunter College.  Although her subsequent  academic career was set aside to help raise a family, Jane returned to school in 1973 and earned a Masters degree in Library and Information Sciences from Drexel University in Philadelphia, then working until her retirement as placement director for her alma mater.  During that time while working and raising her family, Jane also pursued a long time love for the arts. She created a pottery studio in the basement of their home where she discovered and developed her abilities as an artist, and in 1986, Jane returned to school at Moore College of Art in Philadelphia, to further her study in ceramics.  Despite an earlier diagnoses of Parkinson’s Disease, she continued to create unique works of pottery and sculpture well into her 80s.  Jane was always an elegant woman, in her manner and style and how she shared herself with those around her.  A memorial service will be held on Sunday, December 7th at 1:00 pm at the Snyderman residence, above The Works Gallery, 301 Cherry Street, 3rd Fl., Philadelphia Pa. 19106.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME of Medford, NJ.  (www.BradleyStow.com)
