Syd was my aunt, our father's sister. She and I had several adventures together including a two week self-drive in Scotland and trips to the St. Andrews Society gala in St. Michaels Md. I will miss her.

I had the privilege of knowing Sydney for these last 9 years since I have been in the garden club. I also enjoyed her bird reports to our club but more importantly her friendship. She was delightful to talk with and had such a sense of conviction . Although I know it was physically difficult for Sydney to get around, she loved to come to meetings, especially board meetings in the latter days. I will miss my conversations with her and her physical presence. She will always remain a treasure to me.

Recently I've lost a number of friends who uniquely enriched my life; Syd is the most recent of those losses. When we were York, PA neighbors in the early 1960s, Syd introduced me to the joy of Ernest Krape's painting classes in the Gettysburg area; we also became first-time mothers in those years. We continued to keep in touch as we moved elsewhere, and I shall always cherish the memories of our friendship.

Sidney's presence at the Board meetings of the garden club was inspirational: her difficulty in walking did not deter her from her monthly attendance. Her wit and storytelling was a pleasure to all. She delighted everyone at the Pinelands Garden Club with her write-up in the monthly Pixie on the happenings at the bird feeder in her backyard. She was truly an original and we will dearly miss her.
