Allen de Castro III Obituary

Allen John de Castro III, 68 of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully in his home on Thursday, March 7, 2019.  Allen was born on October 2, 1950, in Norwalk, CT, to Allen John de Castro, Jr. and Barbara (Van De Water) de Castro. He graduated from Deerfield Academy and the University of Vermont, earning a B.S. in English. His career highlighted his interest in communications and marketing. He worked in promotion and advertising in New York City before coming to New Jersey to work with Campbell Soup Company, then SAI in Pennsylvania, and later created his own business.  His childhood was spent around water; he was often on the beach, sailing, or fishing. While attending University of Vermont, he met his future wife Emmy Lou (Lucker). He was a deeply loved husband, and a beloved father to Katherine, Peter, and Laurie. He enjoyed family trips to the beach where he’d play his trusty sidekick guitar while soaking in the bright sun. When he wasn’t on the beach, he could be found hiking and camping in the mountains. Vacationing on Lake Wallenpaupack was also a favorite get-away. He lived for the winter, as he loved snow and was an avid skier. His favorite ski adventures were to Tuckerman’s Ravine in New Hampshire. At home, he sought adventure in fixing what seemed impossibly broken and built up a mighty collection of tools. A British car enthusiast, he loved restoring his MGAs. His passion and talent for music, athleticism, and handiness was delightfully contagious, and he was eager to share his passion, talent, and knowledge with anyone willing to learn or listen. He regularly attended the Protestant Community Church in Medford Lakes, serving on the Board of Trustees, and frequently contributed both his handyman expertise and his guitar playing, the latter leading him to help form the Log Cabin Café music venue, a long-held dream of his.  He is survived by his wife Emmy Lou; daughter Katherine and her husband Garth Towne; son Peter; daughter Laurie and her husband Steve Elwin; and his three grandchildren, Micah, Ivy, and Ian. He is also survived by his mother, brother Jeff de Castro, sister Mary Ludwig (Michael), and multiple nieces and nephews. He is predeceased by his father Allen J. de Castro, Jr. and sister Sue Anderson.  Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, March 16, 2019, from 11:00am - 1:00pm at the Protestant Community Church, 100 Stokes Road, Medford Lakes, NJ, where a Celebration of his life will be held on Saturday at 1:00pm. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family would appreciate memorial donations to the Protestant Community Church.  (www.BradleyStow.com)
