Doris C (Clevenger) Brown

DORIS C. BROWN (nee Clevenger) of Medford, NJ, died on July 4, 2018.  Mrs. Brown was the widow of Jack Covert Brown who died May 9, 2012.  Prior to her marriage in 1992 to Jack Brown, she was married to Henry Ogden Hannum Jr. and resided in Collingswood, NJ.  Mr. Hannum died in 1975.  Mrs. Brown graduated from Collingswood High School in 1942.  During World War II she served in the Civil Defense Corps as a Nurse’s Aide at Hahnemann Hospital in Philadelphia, PA and was employed in the Accounting Dept. of the Federal Reserve Bank of Philadelphia.  She earned her B.A. in Psychology at Rutgers University and was Salutatorian of the Class of 1969.  Following graduation, she taught mentally challenged children at Archway School in Atco, NJ and was volunteer counselor with the Camden County Mental Health Society.  She was later employed by the State of New Jersey Department of Labor and Industry as an Employment Counselor in Camden, NJ for 6 years, followed by 8 years as Personnel Management Technician for the Department of Personnel in Trenton, NJ.  In 1984 returned to Camden and supervised an Employment Counseling Unit for 4 years until her retirement.  At the Philadelphia Museum of Art she volunteered 18 years as a guide, retiring in 1998.  She was an active member and trustee of the Collingswood Historical Society and also served as president of the Friends of the Collingswood Library until moving to Medford Leas.  She is survived by her daughters Carolyn Hannum and Suzanne Hannum and several grandchildren and great grandchildren.  She is the mother of the late Stephen Thomas Hannum who died in 2012.  Relatives and Friends are invited to greet her family on Saturday, August 18 between 12-12:30 PM at Medford Leas, 1 Medford Leas, Medford, NJ.  A Celebration of life will be held on Saturday from 1:00 - 3:00 PM.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, Medford, NJ.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family requests donations in her memory to the Friends of Southern Ocean County Animal Shelter, C/O PO Box 1162, Manahawkin, NJ 08050.  www.BradleyStow.com
