John Mockus Obituary

JOHN MOCKUS, of Bonita Springs, FL, Cape May, NJ, and formerly of Medford, NJ, passed away on Thursday, February 18th, 2021. He was 74 years of age. Born in Philadelphia, PA, he is the son of Dominic and Eileen Mockus. John retired from Rancocas Valley Regional High School, Mt. Holly, NJ, as a Guidance Counselor; prior to his time at RV, John was a teacher and guidance counselor at Clearview School District in Mullica Hill, NJ. John was a devoted educator who cared deeply about his students and colleagues. An avid tennis player, John was a member of the Cape May Tennis Center and the Palmira Golf and Country Club in FL. He also was a member of the Corinthian Yacht Club in Cape May, NJ. A true trivia Guru, John was an integral part of his trivia teams in both NJ and FL. A Penn State alumn, John fervently supported his Penn State Nittany Lions. Since his retirement in 2010, John and Audrey have enjoyed traveling together and seeing the world.

Commemorating John in just a few words would be impossible, as he was so many things to so many people. Everyone can agree, however, that he was known for his gentle, kind demeanor, bottomless patience, love for his family and friends, and unparalleled wit. He is survived by his beloved wife of 51 years, Audrey Golomb Mockus, and is the loving father of Kathryn Mockus-Cipriani and her husband Frank. John is the devoted grandfather or “Wecop” to Frankie and Audrey Cipriani. He is survived by his siblings Paul Mockus (Joyce) and Jim Mockus (Dottie), and by his sisters in law, Evelyn Leap (the late Vic), Nancy Belcastro (the late Bill), and Jackie Fisher (Jon). John, the “Favorite Uncle,” will be greatly missed by his many nieces and nephews, friends, and colleagues. Relatives and friends are invited to his Mass of Christian Burial on Saturday, February 27 at 11 AM at ST. MARY OF THE LAKES CHURCH, 40 Jackson Rd., Medford, NJ, 08055.

For those who cannot attend in person, a webcasting of the service can be found at https://www.youtube.com/c/SMLParish

The family requests that masks be worn at all times and that social distancing protocols be followed at all times during the services. We also request that friends and family do not take risks by traveling from far out of town to attend, as streaming services will be available. John was very cautious and careful with the pandemic and the absolute last thing he would want is for anyone to put themselves at risk by attending his services.

The family plans to host an outdoor celebration of life at a later date.

Interment for family will follow at the Parkview Cemetery at Kirby’s Mill in Medford, NJ.
