Rodger Carney Obituary

Rodger D. Carney of Medford, N.J. passed away suddenly on February 23rd, 2024. He was 84 years of age.

Born in Springfield, Ohio, he was the son of the late John William Carney and Norma (nee Gentes) Carney.

He is also preceded in death by brother, Leslie Carney, daughter, Stacey Carney, and son, Jason Carney.

He resided in Medford for 49 years. A 1958 graduate of Rancocas Valley High School, Rodger then attended Keystone Junior College in Scranton, PA where he played catcher for the baseball team.

After his first year, he left school to join the Air Force from 1960-1964 where he was stationed in Germany and worked in intelligence. After leaving the USAF, he attended the University of Maryland, where he received his Bachelor of Arts in American History, followed by a Master of Education from Trenton State College and a Master of Arts from Glassboro State College. Rodger was a retired Administrator with the Lenape Regional High School District, where he spent his career at Lenape High School as an American History teacher, Student Council Advisor, and coach of numerous sports, including Head Coach of the Men's Tennis Team and Assistant Coach of the Football Team.

He earned many accolades throughout his teaching and coaching career including South Jersey Tennis Coaches Association Coach of the year in 1993, 1999 Rotary Club of Medford-Vincentown Citizen of the year, and 2012 Lenape High School Athletic Hall of Fame inductee.

Rodger had a love for travel and camping and he and his family traveled extensively in his RV throughout Canada and every state in the lower forty eight. In recent years, he and Lynda enjoyed taking cruises throughout Scandinavia and the Mediterranean.

Rodger is survived by his wife Lynda with whom he celebrated almost sixty years of marriage, a sister, Patricia (Richard) Horan, brother, Jack (Jean) Carney, and loving children, Greg (Susannah Watson) Carney, of Canton, Georgia, Jodi (the late Ron) Mundy, of Lumberton, N.J., Grandchildren, Avery and Cooper Carney, Aidan and Sophie Mundy, and adored nieces and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday, March 3, 2024 from 3 PM – 6 PM, and on Monday, March 4, from 10:30-11:30 AM at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, 127 Medford – Mount Holly Rd., Medford, NJ 08055. A funeral service will be held at 11:30 AM. Internment will follow in the BG Wm. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
