Alan Buchan Obituary

ALAN B. BUCHAN of Mt. Laurel, NJ, passed away on June 4th, 2019.  He was 83 years of age. Born in New York City, NY, Alan was the son of the late Harold B. & Grace V. Buchan and has resided in Mt. Laurel since 1966.  He graduated from Norwich University in 1957 where he was promoted to Colonel Regimental Commander and was commissioned as a 2nd Lieutenant in the US Army. He was stationed in Germany patrolling the east-west German border, where he met the post librarian Janet Riemersma, who became his wife. He retired from active duty as a Captain in 1964 and started a career in the railroad industry where he retired as President of the Transportation and Distribution Association in Media, PA in 1989. He then received his Master's Degree in Landscape Architecture from the University of Pennsylvania and began working for the Burlington County Office of Land Use Planning where he retired from in 1996. In retirement, he was on the boards of the NJ State Historical Sites Council, YMCA Camp Ockanickon and The Armed Forces Heritage House. He also served on the committee for the South Jersey Light Rail project, was the President of the Pennsylvania Railroad Historical Society and wrote two books on railroading. His greatest accomplishment was accepting Jesus as his Savior and being baptized on May 23, 1999. He ended as a member of Fellowship Community Church in Mt. Laurel, NJ.  Alan is the Beloved Husband of Janet L. (nee Riemersma) Buchan of Mt. Laurel, NJ and the Loving Father Robert M. Buchan and his wife Linda of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Richard S. Buchan of Conshohocken, PA and Kathleen A. Buchan of Sicklerville, NJ.  He is also survived by his grandchildren Jessica Stewart (Jonathan), Rebekah Hughes (Connor), Melissa Fehlinger (Phil), Victoria Cortes (Lex), Matthew Buchan and Ryan Martin and his great grandchildren Paxton Hughes, Scarlett Stewart, Haddon Hughes, Jasper Stewart, Tripp Hughes and Whitney Fehlinger.  Relatives and friends are invited to his viewing on Sunday, June 9th from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and on Monday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford, New Jersey, where a Funeral Service will be held on Monday at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in the BG Wm. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family requests donation to the Fellowship Community Church, 1520 Hainesport Road, Mt. laurel, NJ  08054.  (www.BradleyStow.com)
