Dorothy E. Whitaker, of Southampton, NJ passed into the arms of her Savior, Jesus Christ, surrounded by family and friends, Saturday, May 13. She was 98 years old. She was the daughter of the late Ethel (nee Hammond) & Leonard Fauquier. Dorothy was born March 21, 1919 in Jersey City, NJ and grew up in Teaneck & Ridgefield Park, NJ, where she attended Ridgefield Park High School. Dorothy spent many years working in New York City, where she met her husband Bill Whitaker. They were married in December of 1947 and lived in New York City. Later they moved to Ridgefield Park and then to River Vale, where they raised their daughters Mary Jane and Lynn. They moved to Connecticut in 1969 and retired to Leisuretowne in Southampton, NJ in 1973. For several years Dorothy was the personal secretary to James Linen, president of Time, Inc. She retired to raise her younger daughter and resumed working in Medford, NJ, for Plexus Publishing. Dorothy and Bill made many friends in Leisuretowne and were involved in many activities. Dorothy sang in church choirs and many other places, raised African violets, learned rug hooking, enjoyed antiques, cooking and spending time with her grandchildren. Dorothy and Bill spent about 30 years researching their genealogy, tracing their ancestors back about 800 years. Dorothy is survived by her sister Marjorie Gasaway, her daughters Lynn Luebkemann (William) and Mary Jane Clark (Wayne), her five grandchildren, Linda Hood, Lisa Johnston, Joshua Luebkemann, Rebekah Luebkemann and Sarah Luebkemann, her great-grandson, Jeremy Fitzgerald, and her great-great-grandchildren, Jeremy Fitzgerald, Jr. and Skyla Nichols and by many special friends. Dorothy was also the great-grandmother of the late Chase Nichols. Dorothy will be sorely missed by her family and many friends. Family and friends may visit Friday morning, May 19 from 10-11 AM at First Baptist Church of Vincentown, 39 Main Street, Vincentown, NJ, where a celebration of her life will follow at 11 AM. Interment will be at Brigadier General William C. Doyle Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.
