Janet was born on Aug 27, 1929 & raised in LA, CA, the youngest of 8 children. She attended local schools & received her BA from Immaculate Heart College in LA. As a young adult she joined the Sisters of The Immaculate Heart in 1947. During the 50s she taught in parochial schools at both elem & secondary levels. In 1961 her community sent her to Fordham University in New York where she earned her Masters Degree in American History. She completed her doctoral research there & in London, England & was awarded her Ph.D. in European History from Fordham University.
Janet served the Sisters of the Immaculate Heart for 23 years, leaving in 1969 with fond remembrances of the community.
She returned to the East Coast and taught at New Jersey City University in Jersey City, from 1970-1993 where she co-developed their Multicultural Center in the 70s. One of the richest experiences was her association with the Contemplative Outreach lay movement founded by Cistercian Priest, Fr. Thomas Keating; being taught the practice of centering prayers, answering a lifetime of searching.
Janet was grateful to the admin, nurses & aides within the Medford Leas community, who provided the environment where she completed her spiritual journey until her sudden, yet peaceful death on Dec 27, 2018.
