Allan C. Beyer, 89, of Southampton, passed away peacefully at Samaritan Hospice on Tuesday, March 21, 2023 surrounded by his loving family. Born in Fords, Allan lived in Sayreville before moving to Southampton 20 years ago.
Allan was predeceased by his parents, Adam and Elizabeth (Hauer) Beyer and his sister Bonnie Mathieu. He is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 60 years, Barbara (Zonkowski) Beyer; his children, Kathy Del Giorno (Roger), Ken Beyer (Tammi), Chris Beyer (Jutta); his grandchildren Thomas, Eric, Savannah, Kevin, Nicole, Emily and many nieces and nephews whom he loved dearly.
Al was a proud veteran of the US Navy, serving aboard the USS Valcour in the Middle East near the end of the Korean War. He was a graduate of Perth Amboy High School and Rutgers University.
While living in Sayreville, he was an active member of Our Lady of Victories where he served as eucharistic minister and lector. Al was president of the Church Council, active with CYO, Pre-Cana and Marriage Encounter. In Southampton, he was a faithful parishioner of Holy Eucharist, volunteering his time at various organizations. Al was a dedicated member of the Knights of Columbus. Within his community of Leisuretowne, he was active in Touch, the Finance Committee and a Deborah Chapter.
Al loved to read, travel through the US & Europe and spend quality time with family and friends. He was very supportive of his grandchildren's sports and activities: soccer, basketball, swimming, dance and theater. He will be most remembered for his sensitivity, patience, contagious smile, genuine kindness and as a great listener. Every person in his life was blessed with his gentle and easy going spirit. He reflected what it meant to be a husband, dad, Pop Pop and uncle. His t-shirts said it all: “Al - the man, the myth, the legend” and “World’s greatest Pop Pop”.
Visitation will be at Holy Eucharist RC Church at 520 Medford Lakes Rd., Tabernacle, NJ on Friday, March 24 from 10 to 11 a.m., followed by a Mass of Christian Burial at 11 a.m.
