Ann Smith Obituary

ANN T. SMITH (nee Eschenberg) of Whiting, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, October 21st, 2022.  She was 85 years of age.  Born in Mt. Holly, NJ on December 27, 1936 and grew up on a farm in Tabernacle, NJ.  She is the daughter of the late Henry and Emily Eschenberg.  She has resided in Whiting for the past 20 years.

Always industrious, Ann worked for G&G Electronics in Medford, NJ, enjoyed many years as a medical transcriptionist, and even pursued a realtor’s license in Ocean County.  A devout Catholic, she attended church every Sunday and enjoyed her daily devotion.  One of her favorite hobbies was singing in her community choir and being an active member of the Red Hat Society.  As an animal lover, she adored her dog, Julie and contributed to the Animal Welfare Institute.  Her belief was to be charitable and often helped friends in need.  She was fond of holidays and baked cakes for each occasion.  Ann was fortunate to travel to many places like Hawaii, Florida, North Carolina and California either by plane, car, or cruise ship.  Ann traveled to Nevada where she took a helicopter ride over the grand canyon & down to a dude ranch!  Her favorite adventure was to visit her mother’s homeland, Ireland.  She climbed the steps of the Blarney Castle and kissed the Blarney stone, ventured inside the tomb of the Newgrange ruins and stood atop the Cliffs of Moher.  If you knew Ann, you knew she loved getting dressed up, going to family gatherings, getting her hair and nails done, wearing make-up and jewelry, going shopping, taking pictures, reading fiction, watching Jeopardy, and celebrating her birthday, especially with her cousin, Margaret.  Her independent spirit, fiery personality, and contagious laugh will be missed by many.

She is the wife of the late Bobby Lee Smith and the beloved mother of Barbara Sullivan (Edward), Jim Gerber (Sherry), John Gerber (Paula), Ryan Goodenough (Beth), Debra Efaw (Robert), the late Robert Smith Jr., Kimberly Costick (Edward),Ronald Lee Gerber, and Michael Smith (Amy).  She is also the adoring grandmother of Sean Leggieri (Kim), Kristen Rayhill, (Sean), Jimmy Gerber (Chrissy), Michael Gerber (Jayme), Ashley Schnare (Justin), Amanda Gratz (Christopher), Taylor Goodenough, Ridley Goodenough, Kelli Cheeseman (Larry), Lindsay Fantini (Michael), Brittney Dugan (John), Nick Costick, Paul Costick (Courtney) and Samantha Smith and great grandmother of Skylar Leggieri, Cameron Rayhill, Meriah Lee, Kenadee Rayhill, Bodhi Gerber, Kai Gerber, Henry Schnare, Kalin Schnare, Kayla Cheeseman, Robert Cheeseman, Kaitlyn Fantini, Briana Fantini, LJ Shaffer, Kyleigh Dugan, Sofia Dugan, Caleb Dugan, Michael Fantini, Grace Costick, Cole Dugan, Isabella Gratz and Paul Costick Jr.  She is also survived by her cousin and best friend Margaret (Roger) Anderson & family, and her niece Virginia (Brian) Hildebradt.
