Bruce Powell Obituary

Bruce R. Powell, age 82 years, of Tabernacle, NJ, passed away peacefully at home on (February 20, 2025). Bruce was born in Mount Holly, NJ to Verna Sarah (nee Horner) and Elwood C. Powell.

He is the beloved husband of Mary (nee Curlis), loving father of Brian K. Powell, Robert C. Wood, Lawrence E. Wood and Kathy L. Wood, adoring grandfather of 10 grandchildren and 5 great grandchildren.  He is also survived by his two sisters.

Bruce grew up on a small farm on Brick Road in Marlton NJ and was the first graduating class out of Lenape High School. He then served in the United States Navy on a destroyer from 1964 to 1970 during the Vietnam war. Honorably discharged he went to work as a printer for MacCalla and Company printing for 42 years. His retirement was short and he decided to go back to work for Premier Press helping out an old friend. After 2 years there he decided to start working on some life long dream projects. He became Commander of the American Legion Guy W. Doron Sr. Post 526 where they won many awards. He was a member of the VFW and also became a Mason for the 19th Masonic Distric. When the Battleship New Jersey was brought to Camden he became a docent giving tours on the most decorated Battleship in our Nations history where he met Tom Hanson. He and Tom quickly became friends and they started the Jersey Devil Pine Barren Tours of South Jersey and eventually found themselves filming an episode for the Discovery Channel on Josh Gates show Expedition X Devil in the forest which is still available to watch on Netflix and other platforms. Bruce spent the next 9 years working for Johnson's Corner Farm where he performed many different duties and was well known to many as Farmer Bruce. Bruce was a lover of history, of preservation, of art, of hunting and fishing, of family, of people and life itself, always willing to help anyone in need. He will be deeply missed and forever in our hearts.
