Our beautiful mother, Charlotte Margolis (née Gallagher), age 86, of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on February 4, 2026, following a courageous five-year journey with frontotemporal dementia. Charlotte remained expressive even after the disease took her voice, sharing her signature smile (or well-timed eye roll) with everyone until her final days.
Born and raised in Philadelphia, a graduate of Little Flower High School, Charlotte began her career at The Franklin Institute, then worked at NBC News in Philadelphia. After transferring to the Los Angeles office, she met and married her husband. Together, they raised two daughters.
The family’s journey took them to several U.S. cities and then to London, England, for ten years. Charlotte loved travel and went many places including more unique locales such as Egypt, Israel, Russia, and the former Yugoslavia. During her time in London, she worked as a real estate agent, primarily helping Americans who were moving to the UK.
Following her divorce, Charlotte returned to the United States to be near her siblings. She built a successful career in Investor Relations, beginning at Subaru in Cherry Hill before moving to Washington, D.C., to work as a Director for the National Investor Relations Institute (NIRI). Although she loved D.C. and had many dear friends there, Charlotte missed her family and decided to return to New Jersey.
Unwilling to become idle, she embarked on a "second act" career at the NJ DMV in Medford, even serving as a union steward. After retiring at age 77, she served as President of her condo association, driven by a passion for helping others and making a difference in her community. In her quieter moments, Charlotte found tremendous joy in her plants and loved nothing more than tending to her garden.
Charlotte is survived by her beloved daughters, Nicole and her husband Mark, and Rachel. They surrounded her with love until the very end. She has joined her parents, her sister, Elaine, and her brother, Gerald (Jerry). We imagine them together now, sharing a glass of iced tea (or wine) and reminiscing about their childhood.
All who knew Charlotte remember her love of a good party and her immense enjoyment at being surrounded by friends. In May, we will honor her life with a memorial celebration at Medford Leas; details to follow - one last great party for a great lady who will be deeply missed.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in memory of Charlotte to The Association for Frontotemporal Degeneration (AFTD), 2700 Horizon Drive, Suite 120, King of Prussia, PA 19406 or online at www.theaftd.org.
