Dorothy Mae Nelson (nee Young) of Tabernacle NJ passed away peacefully on November 2, 2022 at Samaritan Hospice, Mount Holly, NJ. Born in Delair, NJ on December 30, 1945. Daughter of the late Edward G. Young and Dorothy E. Stillings (nee Smizer)
Beloved wife of the late Edward T. Nelson. She is predeceased by her half-brothers Ronald Stillings and Ralph Stillings (Joan). Dorothy is survived by her children Terri Zane (Keith) and Edward Nelson (Donna), her step-children Edward Ward (Wendy), Edward Nelson (Melissa), her grandchildren Rebbecca Smith (Nick Williams), James D. Smith, Jr. (fiancé Brittany Goldy), Nathaniel Zane, Melanie Vedder (Erik), Donald Blair, Edward P. Nelson, II (Haley), Daniel Ward and Taylor Nelson and her great grandchildren Mackenzie Smith, Victoria Vedder, Keira Vedder and Rosalee Nelson.
Dorothy enjoyed traveling to the lighthouses of New Jersey with her husband and grandchildren. She also enjoyed family parties, cooking, scrapbooking and crafting. She worked as a Bus Driver for Meredith Bus Company and Laidlaw Transit, Inc before health issues contributed to her retiring after 15 years of service.
Dorothy was a longtime supporter of the Medford Farms Volunteer Fire Company #1 (Tabernacle Fire Department) alongside her husband serving as Fire Police and as a member of the Ladies Auxiliary for many years.
A Celebration of her Life will be held on Saturday, November 12, 2022 at 2:00 pm at the Tabernacle United Methodist Church, 166 Carranza Road, Tabernacle NJ. Friends may greet the family on Saturday from 1:00 – 2:00 PM. Interment will be private and at the convenience of the family in the BG Wm. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ. Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the Bradley & Stow Funeral Home of Medford, NJ.
