Edith S. Phipps nee-Matassa of Medford, NJ formerly of Marlton, passed away on December 9, 2023. Beloved wife of the late Dee William Phipps. Loving mother of Patricia (David) Hawkes, of Marlton, Wayne (Melissa) Phipps of Medford, Alan (April) Phipps of West Haverstraw, NY, Jennifer (Gerald) Kizer of Lumberton. Devoted grandmother of Gavin Hawkes, Morgan Hawkers, Makayla Kizer, Riley Phipps, Alexa Phipps, and the late Daniel Hawkes. Dear sister of Anne Curley of Shrewsbury, NJ., the late Rose Layton and the late Carmela Lyons.
Edith was born to Frank & Sara Matassa in Highlands, NJ, and spent the majority of her life in Oceanport, NJ before moving to Marlton. She worked in the Engineering Dept. for the US Govt. at Fort Monmouth in Eatontown, NJ. Edie was an avid Elvis fan; he was only 2nd in line to her late husband Bill. She had an incredible love for the beach and Highlands, NJ where she grew up. She always enjoyed reading good books, especially biographies. But nothing replaced the love for her family. Her 4 children, 6 grandchildren and many nieces & nephews meant everything to her.
Relatives and friends are invited to her visitation on Friday December 15, from 10:00 to 11:00AM at the St. Joan of Arc RC Church, Willow Bend Rd. in Marlton. Funeral Mass to follow at 11:00AM.
Donations can be made in Edith's name to St. Jude's Hospital at stjude.org.
Interment will be private and held at a different date & time.
