Frank Coffman, Jr. Obituary

FRANK W. COFFMAN, JR. of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully with his family on March 3rd, 2025, at the age of 95. Born in West Chester, PA, to Helen (nee Weber) and Frank W. Coffman, Sr., he was the beloved husband of the late Nancy W. Coffman. He is survived by his loving sister, Carolyn Proffit of Dexter, MO; his devoted children, Beth Coffman of Southampton, NJ, and William Coffman and his wife, Carolyn, of Ambler, PA; and his cherished granddaughter, Siena Coffman.

Born just weeks before the tumultuous stock market crash of 1929, Frank's life was shaped by the resilience of the Great Depression and the patriotism of World War II.

He graduated from Ridgewood High School in New Jersey in 1948, laying the foundation for a distinguished academic and professional journey. Frank pursued his passion for engineering at Lehigh University, earning a Bachelor of Science in Industrial Engineering. Upon his college graduation, he was drafted into the US Army, where he served as a corporal and radar operator on the M51 Skysweeper anti-aircraft system. Upon his return, he furthered his education at Lehigh, obtaining an additional engineering degree in mechanical engineering.

For 31 years, Frank applied his expertise as a mechanical engineer at the Atlantic Richfield Company (ARCO), where he not only built a successful career but also found the love of his life, Nancy. Their marriage, a testament to enduring love and partnership, spanned 62 years.

Frank's dedication to helping others extended far beyond his professional life. In retirement, he devoted 23 years as a volunteer Medicare counselor for the NJ State Health Insurance Assistance Program (SHIP), including eight years of impactful service on the NJ Medicare Part B, Beneficiaries Advisory Council. He also shared his financial acumen as an Income Tax Counselor for AARP’s Tax Counseling for the Elderly Program for eight years, assisting countless seniors with their tax preparations.

Known for his sharp intellect, unwavering moral compass, and strong constitution, he was a true thinker and always up for a good debate. He embraced technology, becoming a proficient computer user and a master of spreadsheets even in his last days. He also found joy in the simple pleasures of life, including word puzzles, reading, tending to his lawn and his daily walks, often accompanied by his loyal feline companion, Nemo, as he raised and lowered the flag on "the court" in his beloved Medford, NJ, where he resided for over 45 years.

Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests memorial donations be made to the charity of one's choice.
