Janet Buchan Obituary

JANET L. BUCHAN (nee Riemersma) of Mt. Laurel, NJ, passed away on August 27th, 2021.  She was 87 years of age. Born in Chicago, IL, she was the daughter of the late Claude & Lucille Riemersma. She graduated from the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI with a Master’s in Library Science in 1956. She was accepted by Army Special Services and assigned to two libraries in Germany where she met and married the late Alan B. Buchan in Feb 1960. In March 1988 (when she was 55) she received Jesus as her savior during a William Harness concert at Come Alive Church. She joined the church in November and was baptized the following March. She loved the churches she attended (Come Alive and Fellowship Community) and was very involved with them.  She was a woman of service, volunteering in various libraries, had several offices in the Mt Laurel Garden Clubs in the 1970s. She also volunteered at My Brother’s Keeper, Options Pregnancy Center, and Caring Hospice along with other organizations. She loved all her different volunteer jobs and was still wanting to volunteer up until the end. She loved spending time with her family and talking about the things that she did with her grandchildren when they were growing up. Gardening was also a passion and she was still planting flowers and tending to them to the end. Mom loved her backyard (it was her little paradise) and would sit on the patio, feeding and watching the squirrels and the birds and all their antics.  She resided in Mt. Laurel since 1966.  She is the Beloved Mother of Robert M. Buchan and his wife Linda of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Richard S. Buchan of Conshohocken, PA, and Kathleen A. Buchan of Sicklerville, NJ.  She is also survived by her sister Lois Arner (Gerry), her six grandchildren Jessica Stewart (Jonathan), Rebekah Hughes (Connor), Melissa Fehlinger (Phil), Victoria Cortes (Lex), Matthew Buchan, and Ryan Martin and her ten great-grandchildren Paxton, Scarlett, Haddon, Jasper, Tripp, Whitney, Claire, Silas, Stryder, and Ryle.  Relatives and friends are invited to her viewing on Wednesday, September 1st from 6:00 – 8:00 PM and on Thursday from 10:00 – 11:00 am at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford, New Jersey, where a Funeral Service will be held on Thursday at 11:00 AM.  Interment will follow in the BG Wm. Doyle Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Wrightstown, NJ.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy the family requests donation to the Fellowship Community Church, 1520 Hainesport Road, Mt. laurel, NJ  08054.  (www.BradleyStow.com)
