Joan Davis Obituary

Joan E. Davis, 86, of Marlton, NJ, passed away on Friday, June 3rd, 2022, at home surrounded by her loved ones. Joan was the wife of the late John H. Davis and they resided in Florida until his passing. Joan was born in Salem NJ on June 23, 1935, daughter of the late Reverend John B and Mildred B Peterson. At an early age she gave her heart to Jesus Christ and since then has committed herself to serving her King and Savior with passion. Jesus was always the object of her affection. In all of her comings and goings His ways, His character, and His nature were constantly demonstrated in and through her in all that she did.

Joan is survived by her three sons, their wives, and families. Stephen and Gerri Jackson, David and Tyla Jackson and Rev John and Beth Jackson. Her heritage also includes 9 grand-children and 14 great grand- children with one more on the way. She also is survived by her stepchildren Janet Haley, Allen Davis, and their children. Predeceased by her stepson Scott Davis, Joan is survived by her step-daughter-in-law, Joanne and their children.

Joan attended Eastern Baptist College with the intent to receive a degree in Christian Education and looked forward to becoming actively involved in Christian Service. As time went by, God’s intentions for Joan became evident. She married Charles Jackson, and afterwards the first of her three boys were born. Her full time Christian service now took place at home and in her words, she began her lifelong ministry “training three small boys in the ways of the Lord.” Her three “boys” are grateful to God that she did.

Joan taught Sunday School on many occasions, she led church choirs, played the church organ, and conducted Bible Studies in whatever church she attended. She had a beautiful voice and sang the praises of her Lord on countless occasions. She was known to carry her autoharp wherever she went and was always ready to sing. Joan also was an Administrative Assistant at The Baptist Home of South Jersey in Riverton, as well as Lakewood of Voorhees. In her retirement, she volunteered at nursing homes, food banks and hospice organizations.

Joan was an avid cruciverbalist (she liked crossword puzzles) and could be found almost anywhere solving one. She loved to curl up with a good book and read. She had a passion for butterflies and collected pictures, cups, figurines, you name it, everything butterflies.

Joan, Joanie, Mom, Ma, Mommy, Mom-Mom loved spending time with her friends, her children, her grandchildren, and her great grandchildren. They were the joy of her heart and kept her smiling even through some of her toughest times. Her godly influence over all of their lives will live on as a tribute to her legacy.
