John Patrick Hanley February 15, 1933 – April 24 2021
John was born in the Bronx, NY to the late John Patrick Hanley and Margaret Hanley. In 1967 he relocated his family to Trenton, NJ and joined the executive team at Mercer County Community College. In 1975 he was appointed president of the college, retiring in 1992 after guiding the effort to build Mercer into one of the premier two-year colleges in the nation.
John was well known for his sardonic wit and humor. He enjoyed traveling and visited many countries including India, Brazil, Japan, Ireland, France, and England where his natural need to learn about and experience new cultures brought him much fun and many unusual adventures. He is the beloved husband of Cecile C. Hanley, PhD. of Medford, NJ, and loving father of Christopher Hanley and Ian Hanley and the proud grandfather of Claire E. Hanley and Lauren Reyes.
He is survived by his sisters, Helena, Margaret, Sheila and his brother Patrick and numerous
nephews and nieces. He was predeceased by his brother James and his sister Mary.
