Mary Carswell Obituary

MARY H. CARSWELL, formerly of Southampton, NJ, passed away on Saturday, September 18th, 2021. She was 91 years of age. Born in Philadelphia, PA, she is the daughter of the late Francis and Mary McMahon, and is the wife of the late Edward A. Carswell, Sr.

Mary’s main focus was always her family, attending all Birthdays, Sacraments, Graduations and gatherings for the Holidays. She loved gardening, reading and music, especially from her favorite Broadway musicals. She loved to dance with her husband Eddie, whether it was Square Dancing, slow dancing or the Jitterbug. She loved to travel with Eddie in their motorhome making it to all 50 states. Mary loved to collect photography of all the family events, and proudly displayed them throughout her home. She really enjoyed family game nights playing Pinochle, Scrabble and many card and board games that often became mildly competitive. Mary started the enduring family tradition of The Christmas Progressive Dinner 48 years ago, in 1973. When it began we were a family of 13, now we are a family of 74, who have always loved to gather, talk, laugh, and EAT.

Mary is the Beloved Mother of Carol Amendola (Thomas), Patricia O’Connor (John) of the Villages, FL, Maryann Haller (James) of Marlton, NJ, Jane Smith (Keith) of Medford, NJ, and Edward Carswell Jr. (Doreen) of Tabernacle, NJ. She is the Loving Grandmother of 17, Joseph Coady, (Courtney) Clare Birch (Ross) Thomas Amendola Jr., (Jenny), James Amendola, (Rachel), Diana Linett, (Fred), James Haller (Brielle), John Haller (Lorena), Julie Johnson (Dave), Keith Smith Jr., (Kimberly) Kelsey Medaglia ((Michael), Kassidy Smith (Meredith) Korey Smith (Sydney), Kody Smith (Lisa), Edward Carswell III (Christen) Karly Carswell (Robert), Nicole Konopka (Anthony), and Jamie Johnson (TJ) as well as the loving Great Grandmother to 29. Mary is also survived by her two sisters, Patricia Tobin (Robert), and Jane Lambarski, and her brother James.
