Mary Czyzyk, 71 of Philadelphia, PA passed away peacefully on April 25th, 2026. She was surrounded by her family.
Throughout her life, she personified courage in the face of hardship.
Born September 5, 1954 in Philadelphia, Mary was the daughter of Antonious and Anna Boules. Raised in Camden, and with help of protective older brothers Michael and John, overcame the turmoil of an upbringing of a household gripped by alcoholism. Through hard work and perseverance, she was the first in her family to graduate college (LaSalle University `76).
She married in 1976, settled in Tabernacle, NJ in 1979, giving birth to 2 sons Stanley and Michael in 1980 and 1981 respectively. She was a devoted mother. She always focused on being socially active and contributing to the community, through the PTA and several other volunteer efforts.
She worked professionally as a bookkeeper and later became a certified tax preparer. She taught her children and many friends and family members the importance of financial literacy.
In 1987, she received the devastating diagnosis of Multiple Sclerosis (MS). At the time, treatments were non-existent. Despite the overwhelming grief, she hid the diagnosis from her children for over 10 years as she wanted them to have a normal childhood.
In 2009, she entered long term care at Inglis House in Philadelphia. Instead of succumbing to self-pity, she became an active member of the community, as a member of the resident council and P.E.E.R advocacy groups. While battling her own declining mobility, she helped raise money, support and awareness for her fellow Inglis residents. Despite the steady progression of her MS symptoms, she adapted and kept pushing with a spirit for life that is an example to all.
She will be dearly missed by her sons Michael and Stanley, daughter in-laws Inessa and Monica, grandchildren Brian, Aryna, Bella and Braydon, brothers Michael and John and many other family members and friends.
Services will be held Thursday, April 30th, 2026 at St. Thomas Greek Orthodox Church at 615 Mercer St., Cherry Hill, NJ. A viewing will be held from 10-11am, with a funeral service in the Greek Orthodox tradition from 11am-12pm.
