Phyllis Beatrice Mack, a remarkable woman who enriched the lives of many, passed away peacefully on May 5, 2025, in Medford, NJ, at the age of 85. Born on November 27, 1939, in Buffalo, New York, Phyllis dedicated her life to education, community, and the pursuit of knowledge.
A true academic, Phyllis was a beloved Professor of History at Rutgers University, where she taught from 1972 until her retirement in 2015. Her intellectual journey began with a BA from Barnard College, followed by an MA from San Francisco College, and culminated in a PhD from Cornell University. Her teachings in the History of Religion and Gender Studies inspired countless students, with courses like "Witchcraft and Magic," "Gender and Spirituality," "History of Jewish Women," and "The Enlightenment" leaving a lasting impact on those fortunate enough to have learned from her.
