Richard Gandy Obituary

Richard John Gandy of Cherry Hill, NJ, went home to be with the Lord on Wednesday, October 26, 2022, joining his beloved wife Barbara after just five weeks.  He was 70 years of age.

Rich leaves behind his daughters Meghan DiLuzio (Joseph) and Jenna Levy (Michael); his grandchildren Benjamin, Nora, and Ozella; his sisters Sarah Gowesky and Jessie Heibel (Pud); his sister-in-law Jean Cogan (John); his brother-in-law William Adams (Linda Carlino); his aunt Dorothy Rush; and many nieces and nephews.

Rich loved and served the Lord, his family, and his friends.  He was born to the late John Marcy and Betty Alice (née Davis) Gandy on January 27, 1952, in New Haven, CT.  He met Barbara at Merchantville High School, where they played together in the band. Rich graduated with the class of 1970 and attended Word of Life Bible Institute and Philadelphia College of Bible.  He and Barb married on January 15, 1977.  They served together in the youth ministry, taking several missions trips with students before raising their daughters.  Rich was a master mechanic, a trade he first learned from his father at his Gulf station in Pennsauken.  He went on to share his expertise with hundreds of mentees, employees, and students in his long career as a mechanic, service writer, service manager, consultant, and automotive teacher.

Rich was a kind and loving husband, father, grandfather, and brother who delighted in spending time with his family.  He had a lifelong love of cars, owning 73 different vehicles of 48 models from 22 different makes.  He shared this love with his grandson Ben; they took great pleasure in collecting and playing together with their matchbox cars.  Rich also loved the outdoors. He spoke often of happy memories of camping, hiking, skiing, fishing, taking scenic drives, and spending time on Long Beach Island with his parents and siblings and later his wife, daughters, nieces, and nephews.

Relatives and friends are invited to his visitation on Saturday, November 5, 2022 from 10am-11am.  A funeral service will be held at 11am in the Bradley & Stow Funeral Home 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford, NJ 08055.  Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hope City Church 5930 Palmer Blvd, Sarasota, FL 34232, the church pastored by his nephew Peter Gowesky: https://hopecitysrq.com/give
