Richard Yoder Obituary

Richard J. Yoder passed away after 100 years of living a wonderful life on July 27, 2022. He leaves behind his loving husband of 47 years William Rackin.

Richard was born and raised in Peru, Illinois.  After attending the University of Illinois, where he earned his Bachelor of Science, Richard enrolled at Yale University where he earned his Masters and  Ph.D. in Chemical Engineering.  His academic career at Yale was interrupted by World War II, at which point he enlisted in the United States Navy as an Officer, commanding an LCD transport ship in the South Pacific.  He was a candidate for the Manhattan Project and received numerous commendations for his service to his country.  After the war, Richard returned to Yale to complete his studies.  Upon receiving his Ph.D., Richard was recruited and hired by Standard Oil (ESSO), which later became Exxon.  During his retirement, Richard volunteered as both an instructor for disadvantaged adults teaching business skills in New York City, as well as serving as a docent for the New York City Public Library.  He was an avid coin and stamp collector which he enjoyed immensely.  He was also a lover of Opera, Broadway, and American Standard music.

He will be remembered for his loving kindness and steadfast devotion to his family and friends.
