Robert Abplanalp Obituary

Robert M. Abplanalp, “Bob” age 80, of Medford, sadly left us on Thursday, May 16th, 2024. Bob was born in St. Mary’s, PA to the late Robert L. and Dorothy (nee Riley) Abplanalp on June 26th 1943. He is predeceased by his brother, Tom Abplanalp. Bob was raised in Oil City, PA where he dreamed of being a sports announcer like Vin Scully. He was a graduate of Rutgers University and earned his MBA from the Wharton School of Business at the University of Pennsylvania. A military intelligence veteran of the US Army during the Vietnam War, he went on to become the Senior VP for the Federal Reserve Bank of NY. After his retirement he continued his work abroad as an independent consultant in Iraq, Kosovo, Bosnia, Moldova, and Belarus to name a few. A devoted Catholic, Bob was a member of the Knights of Columbus and attended mass regularly, including when he was abroad in some of the oldest churches of the world. He loved history, scripture, reading, bowling with his teammates, and college hoops. He was an avid sports fan and regularly cheered on his Dodgers or Penn State, even much to his chagrin when they lost. Bob enjoyed a good theological debate, playing chess / checkers, talking about history, and being with his grandchildren. He will be missed by all those who knew and loved him. Bob is survived by his loving wife of 56 years, MaryJane (nee Phillips); his children, Kevin Abplanalp (Zeenath) and Meghan Bracken (Scott) and grandchildren, Finnegan, Declan, and Hayden, who cherished every minute they spent with him. He is also survived by his loving in – laws, nieces and nephew.
