Robert 'Bob' Reid, Jr. Obituary

Robert ‘Bob’ P. Reid, Jr. passed away peacefully on May 8, 2023, at the age of 80.  He was born in Philadelphia, PA to Joan Blair and Robert P. Reid.

Bob had many interests and hobbies. He found a way to engage others, so they could find “The ART of Seeing”. He encouraged others to overcome their inhibitions and fears, so they could take risks, become life-long learners taking a path to advance their passions.

Bob loved the outdoors, he tent-camped with his family from the coral sands of Florida to the deep woods of the Smokey Mountains in Tennessee. Bob’s love of Nature and Scouting was shared with his children and grandchildren.

Bob’s career was that of several adventures. He was one of the founding faculty members at GCC (Gloucester Count College). He started his own consultancy (Robert Reid Associates), helping companies around the world understand the concepts of Statistical Process Improvement and Total Quality Management. While doing so he traveled through 6 continents. His third endeavor, and possibly most fulfilling was to develop and teach courses for the Art Department at GCC.

Bob’s love of the arts provided a platform for photography, color theory and painting courses at Gloucester County College, GCC, now Rowan College of Southern Jersey. When students entered the courses, they were invited to create a path for their happiness. Students have changed their life’s path as a result of Bob’s philosophy of letting students experiment with self-expression.

Bob still found time along with Anne to be the officers of the Art Leagues in Salem and Gloucester Counties. They composed art with their peers and displayed all over South Jersey.

Bob’s method of instruction was to teach students with a style that made sense to each student and made it applicable to their context. He found great success teaching statistics to nursing students, then word got out that Bob’s courses could help them advance their career. Next nursing and engineering students from four year colleges and universities would come to GCC, just to take Bob’s class.

Bob is the beloved husband of Cicely ‘Anne’ (nee Warner), loving father of Kimberly (William) Suarez, and Scott (Jean) Reid, doting grandfather of Nina, Suzanne, Kristen (Jonathan) Calhoun, Daniel (Alyssa) Suarez, Garrett and Owen Reid, great grand father to Julian and Ronan Calhoun, Brother to Jeanne (Richard) Hermann, Peggy (Richard) Jacobson, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and nephews.

He was friends to many, Dawn and Bill Mays with whom they traveled the world, Lynn and Joe Smith, and Henry and Judy Ryder made a group of eight to do dinners and local theater, all were friends of 50 years.

A visitation will be held on Saturday, May 13, 2023 from 10AM to 12PM Noon in the Bradley & Stow Funeral Home 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford, NJ 08055.  A celebration of Bob’s life will start at 12PM Noon.
