Steven Migiani Obituary

Steven Lino Migiani’s shift has ended. He clocked out peacefully on Sunday afternoon, January 12, a few hours later the Eagles beat the Packers in a playoff win...he hopes you made your parlay!

Steve, age 75, was the son of two hardworking, immigrant parents, Lino and Rose Migiani who met in the Bronx after World War II. He is survived by his children Stefani Kirk (Al) and Steve Rush (Niki), his grandchildren Alfie and Thea, his sister, Margaret Schukay (Ron), niece and nephew, Tracy and RJ and their children (Preston, Sierrah, Chris, Susie).

Steve learned at a young age that he loved all things food and quickly realized he thrived in the kitchen. From his mother he learned to craft the most exquisite marzipan sculptures of fruit, and from his father Steve learned facets of the restaurant business. In 1967 he graduated from Lenape High School and went on to complete culinary school. Steve quickly advanced in the kitchen, always imagining new and unique food pairings. In the early 1970s, he was invited to an internship in the White House after performing at the top of his class. Steve has been a chef at a few restaurants; he spent a number of years at the Claridge Casino, and ultimately retired from Bally's in 2019.

Steve made friends everywhere he went and would do anything to help anyone. To no surprise, it was in the kitchen where he related most with people. The kitchen was Steve's home and he wanted to make sure he could take care of everyone in that kitchen. He found languages to be barriers of socialization, but instead of letting it be a reason to not communicate, he learned the words of his coworkers. Steve became “kitchen fluent” in a number of languages: Spanish, Italian, French Creole, Greek, German, etc. From keeping a clean work area to cutting techniques, Steve knew all the tricks and wanted to teach them to anyone willing to listen. When his children were young, Steve wanted his kids to know his work family and wanted his work family to know his kids. On any given weekend he could be found showing off his kids in the kitchen.

Over the years he applied his talents to everything from beautifully detailed ice sculptures to cooking 100 pounds of bacon for the breakfast rush. In his later years, Steve worked with organizations to cook meals and Thanksgiving dinners for those in need. Steve was truly one of a kind. His briefcase full of newspaper clippings clearly proves his numerous accolades. One of Steve's goals was to write and publish a cookbook which featured stories that complimented each recipe. We have the recipes and are excited to continue his labor of love for all to have.

There will be a celebration of life planned in the future.
