Terence M. (Terry) Finan, of Medford NJ, passed away on December 21, 2023, at the age of 82.
Terry is survived by his beloved wife of 57 years, Helen “Nell” Finan. He is also survived by his children and their spouses: Terry and Heather, Beth and Bob, Meg and Andy, and his grandchildren: Jonathan, Shannon, Charlie, Maren, Carly Rose, and Haddon. He will also be deeply missed by his sister, Kathleen Callan, and brother, Thomas Finan, as well as his sister-in-law, Kathy Finan, brother-in-law, Henry Parker, and many devoted and adored nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
Terry was born in Norristown, PA, to Thomas J. and Pearl E. Finan. He grew up in Audubon, NJ, where he attended St. Rose of Lima Elementary School. He later graduated from St. Joseph’s Preparatory School in Philadelphia and Villanova University. Terry’s career in civil engineering led him to Bethlehem Steel, New Jersey Highway Department, Philco-Ford, Frankfurt Arsenal, Philadelphia Navy Yard, Naval Air Engineering Station Lakehurst, and the United States Postal Service.
Terry was a faithful member of St. Mary of the Lakes Church for many years, where he and Nell served as Eucharistic Ministers, sang in the choir, and volunteered together with the St. Vincent De Paul Society. Terry served on the church's building committee for their new school addition. He was a proud member of St. Mary’s Knights of Columbus Council. Terry gave generously of his time and talent for the benefit of his community. As an early member of the Medford Township Environmental Commission, he advocated for the implementation of an innovative recycling program long before it became routine. Other affiliations and memberships over the years included the Society of Professional Engineers, the Ancient Order of Hibernians, and the National Association of Retired Federal Employees.
Our family would like to thank the dedicated health care providers at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, Penn Medicine, Virtua Hospitals, and Samaritan Hospice. Their skilled and compassionate care gave us an extra five years with Dad through his courageous journey with pancreatic cancer. Many family members and friends also helped Terry and Nell in various ways. We would also like to thank them for their time and support.
Family and friends are invited to attend a visitation on Saturday, December 30, 2023, from 12:00pm to 12:45pm at St. Mary of the Lakes Church (40 Jackson Rd, Medford, NJ). A funeral Mass will follow at 1:00pm. Burial will be immediately after the funeral at Park View Cemetery at Kirby’s Mill (25 Fostertown Road, Medford, NJ 08055). In lieu of flowers, the family suggests memorial donations in Terry’s name to the Pancreatic Cancer Action Network (pancan.org).
