Virginia (Jinny) E. Banks, 77 died peacefully from complications of dementia on March 10, 2021 in Moorestown NJ. Formerly of Poughkeepsie NY she was the daughter of the late James E. and Virginia E. Banks and dear friend of Jeanette Peterson.
Raised in Moorestown, she was a graduate of Moorestown high school and received her Bachelor’s degree in History from Gettysburg College in 1966. Virginia’s working career was spent at IBM in Poughkeepsie where she was a systems programmer and executive administrator until 1992 when she took the “bridge to retirement.”
Jinny was a generous and caring person. Her philanthropic pursuits were extensive, but her deepest interests and volunteer time were spent on organizations that were important to Poughkeepsie. In addition to serving for 15 years as the President of Meals on Wheels of Greater Poughkeepsie, she participated in the opening parade of the Walkway over the Hudson, was a founding member of the Heritage Garden at Locust Grove, ran the Vassar Garden plots for five plus years and was always available to provide help on short notice to the Hudson Valley Philharmonic and other organizations.
Jinny was enthusiastic about beagles, travel, gardening, cooking, classical music and sports, particularly never giving up on the Phillies.
Those who wish to remember Jinny in a special way may make gifts in her memory to:
Hudson Valley Philharmonic: 35 Market Street, Poughkeepsie NY 12601, Gettysburg College: 300 N Washington St, Campus Box 426, Gettysburg PA 17325-1400, or any charity of your choice.
