Virginia Voight Obituary

Dr. Virginia “Ginnie” Carol Ellis Voight, of Palmyra, NJ, forever 29 years old, passed away on July 12, 2026, in Washington, DC, from injuries from an accident. She was born on July 19, 1946, at home in Philadelphia, PA. She is predeceased by her parents, Upshur “Whitie” Ellis and Sadie Ellis; her husband, Charles Anthony Voight; her brothers and their spouses, Upshur Berkley Ellis and Anabell (Miller) Ellis, and Frank Ellis and Barbara (Smith) Ellis; her sister, Barbara Harold; and her brother-in-law, John Thomas. Ginnie is survived by her daughter, Constance Mittelstadt; her grandchildren, Natalia Mittelstadt, and Mason Mittelstadt and wife Rebecca (Hunt) Mittelstadt, and her future great-grandson, Evren Mittelstadt. She is also survived by her daughter, Jodi Yu, and husband Timothy Yu, and her grandchildren, Evelyn Yu and Lillian Yu. She is survived by her older sister, Ruth Thomas. Also, survived by her nieces and nephews, great nieces and nephews, and great great nieces and nephews.

Ginnie graduated from Lincoln High School, and received a Bachelor's of Arts in Christian Education and Elementary Education from The King’s College, Master's of Science in Education from Cairn University, and Doctorate in Educational Leadership from Immaculata University.

She taught in the Palmyra School District for over 30 years, and after her retirement, continued her career as an elementary school principal at The King’s Christian School and then as headmaster of Calvary Temple Christian Academy. She was awarded the honor of Teacher of the Year by the Palmyra Board of Education from 1989 to 1990. She received a Certificate of Merit from the New Jersey State Department of Education in 1990. Also that year, she received a Certificate of Recognition from the New Jersey Governor’s Teacher Recognition Program.

Ginnie never saw a sale she didn’t want to shop, which she used to bless her church, family, and friends. She had a very giving heart and loved her family and friends dearly. Ginnie found joy in taking care of her sister Ruth and being part of her church family every week. She also cared about her students and the kids at church, who loved that she always had candy for them. With her students who needed more guidance, she showed love and patience and helped them make better choices.

Ginnie and her husband Tony enjoyed traveling, and she continued to take trips with her family after his passing. Whether she traveled to Walt Disney World with Jodi and her family or to Lynchburg, VA, to help Mason and Becky move, she was always up for a trip. She also enjoyed celebrating America’s 250th birthday in the nation’s capital.

Every year, Ginnie loved keeping up with her friends by sending Christmas cards, and sent cards to her family for every holiday. She also delighted in giving Christmas gifts to all her relatives at the family Christmas party. Ginnie, who was called "Grandest" by her grandchildren, quoted Mary Poppins when she said her grandchildren were "practically perfect in every way."
