Wayne Kastelein, age 68, of Tabernacle, NJ passed away on Wednesday, January 1st, 2025. Wayne was born on December 5th, 1956, to the late Simon and Joyce Kastelein in Paterson, NJ. He was the oldest of four children.
Wayne is loved and missed by his children Jessica (Ben) and Kenneth (Carly), his grandchildren, his brothers Ken (Kelly) and Gary (Marie), his sister Judy (Joe), as well as his nieces, nephews, and their families. He is also loved and missed by his ex-wife Lori, his dear friend Cindy, and his many friends.
Wayne was a very talented Mason and worked in this industry for 40 years. He learned his trade under his mentor Guido Stipa while living in Medford, NJ. He moved to Colorado where he worked in the Masonry Union out of Denver. When Wayne moved back to NJ., he went into business with his friend Randy DeMore, under K-more Masonry, Inc. Wayne also worked for a short time with many local builders, including Mike Sylvain, Bob Meyers, and Bob Greene. Eventually, he started his own business - Wayne Kastelein Masonry. Wayne was very knowledgeable in other trades as well, such as heating and air conditioning. He truly could fix anything and loved to help his family and friends no matter what time of day or night. Wayne was a member of the Protestant Community Church in Medford Lakes and used his talents there to re-chink and replace many logs at the Church.
Wayne loved the outdoors. In his early years, the family lived next to a golf course where he learned to take care of the greens and how to play golf. While living in Colorado, he enjoyed fly fishing, skiing, and camping. After moving back to NJ and starting a family, Wayne continued sharing his love for the outdoors with his children. He loved to take his kids four-wheeling in the woods or for a drive in his favorite green Chevy truck. He enjoyed camping, crabbing, and fishing, as well as many weekends at the beach with family and friends. He loved taking his son to the annual Golden Fluke Fishing Tournament in Brigantine. Wayne also loved to cook and enjoyed taking cooking classes with his daughter. Most of all, Wayne enjoyed all that life had to offer. He had a big heart and loved to use his talents to help others. He will surely be missed by his family and friends.
A special thanks to the staff at Elkins Crest Health & Rehabilitation Center and Humana Hospice for their support and care over this last year.
