JAMES CHARLES CAPUTO of Medford, NJ, passed away peacefully on Friday, November 25th, 2016, at the age of 83. Born in Monsessen, PA, he was the son of the late Leonard Caputo and Susan Derzy Caputo Laschak and the stepson of Andrew Laschak. James is the beloved husband, for 61 years, of Katherine L. Caputo (nee Wiker) and the loving father of James Caputo (Jane Halfen) and Robert Caputo (Lan Samantha Chang). He is the proud grandfather of Jamie, Jillian and Tai. Jim was drafted into the U.S. Army in1953, serving during the Korean War. Upon discharge he used the G.I. bill to attend The California University of Pennsylvania, where he earned a B.S. in Industrial Arts. After graduation Jim was hired as a teacher at Lenape High School in 1958, the year the school opened. At Lenape he coached boy’s basketball and girls tennis. Jim, called “Mr. C.” by his players and students, was a successful softball coach at Lenape and later Cherokee, to where he transferred when Cherokee opened in 1975. Jim also coached girl’s basketball. He started the Television Production Studios at Lenape and later at Cherokee. He helped establish the AV department at both schools, and recorded hundreds of sporting events, plays and musicals. He also assisted in creating the yearbook for Cherokee, as well as giving a hand as stage crew and tech support during many of the schools’ events. After retiring from coaching, Jim started the “Play Like A Champ” softball camp and ran it for 19 years. Relatives and friends are invited to greet his family on Saturday, January 14th, 2017 from 10am - 12pm, at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Rd., Medford, NJ. A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday at 12pm. Interment will be private. In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made to The Food Bank of South Jersey, 1501 John Tipton Blvd, Pennsauken, NJ 08110. (www.BradleyStow.com)
