Mary Y. (Young) Decker

August 5, 1920 ~ November 4, 2015 (age 95) 95 Years Old


Mary Y. Decker (nee Young) of Voorhees, NJ, formerly of Westfield, NJ passed away on Wednesday, November 4, 2015.  She was 95.  Born, in Salina, KS, on August 5, 1920, Mary is the daughter of the late John and Nell (Doud) Young.  The youngest of seven children, she attended Marymount College, and then moved to Washington, DC to serve her country. Mary worked at the Pentagon in the Division of Military Intelligence from 1942 – 1944.  Following WWII, she moved to New York City where she was employed as an executive secretary at the Marine Midland Bank.  Mary was wed to Robert B. Decker of Roanoke, VA on June 16, 1953. She took great pride in being a homemaker and in raising her two children.  Throughout her life, Mary was involved in many organizations, clubs, and activities.  She loved to bowl and play bridge, and was an active member of P.E.O., a women’s educational philanthropy. In addition, each spring and summer, family and neighbors would see her lovingly tend to her flower garden, a tremendous endeavor that brought her great joy.  During leisure time, she enjoyed knitting, crocheting, and creating needlepoint to decorate her family’s home.  Mary is predeceased by her husband, Robert.  She is the Beloved Mother of her daughter Nancy Kasputis of Medford, NJ, her son Winfield M. Decker and his wife Susan of Crofton, MD, and her son-in-law David Kasputis of Mechanicsburg, PA.  Mary is the Loving Grandmother of Melissa (Kasputis) Chalme and her husband Richard, Alex Kasputis, Winfield R.B. Decker and his wife Helen, and Gary Decker.  She was also blessed with 5 Great Grandchildren: Zoey, Raven, Connor, Tess, and Nora. Mary’s family was truly the light of her life.  Relatives and Friends are invited to greet her family on Friday, November 27 from 2PM -4PM at the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, 127 Medford-Mt. Holly Road, Medford, NJ. (www.BradleyStow.com)   A Celebration of Life Service will follow at 4PM.  In lieu of other expressions of sympathy, the family asks that donations be made to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital (stjude.org) or Disabled American Veterans (dav.org).
