Art was one of the most supportive and kind supervisors I have ever had in my public affairs career. He was instrumental in one of my key promotions, and believed in work-life balance long before it became a professional buzz word. About a week ago, I called Art to thank him for his annual Christmas card, and discussed a possible pilgrimmage to New Jersey for a public affairs reunion. Little did I know that would be the last time we would speak. Utta, I am praying for you and your family. Rest in peace, my friend.

There is no question that Art was much better than the average bear. We had many adventures together and I have treasured those memories over the years. As the Wing Historian, Art was responsible for the research into the marvelous history of the 732nd. When we developed the RAM patch, Art and I had to compose a letter to the Department of the Air Force explaining why the original 332nd Bomb Squadron patch needed to be changed. We wrote a compelling letter explaining that RAM stood for "Ready and Mobile." Art was central to forming the AFFFA in 1974 which is still in existence today. For those who don't remember, that stands for Air Force Fun and Frolic Association. Art was certainly full of Fun and Frolic. As we flew together when he was an instructor navigator we had great times while he struggled with less than perfect students all over the world. I remember when he learned to spell his name in Japanese and wrote it everywhere on that trip. Art and I went all over Europe and Asia together. We walked the Parthenon together and enjoyed the best food all over the world. We wrote songs together and were together when we first found the old Bomb Squadron's airfield at Bury St. Edmonds, England. In those days, a family was living in the tower and it was covered with vines. I understand it has since been established as a museum. As we shut down military squadrons, I believe that the 732nd owes its existence to Art and his fine work. We will all miss Art and fondly remember our days together.

I was a young man, mostly clueless, but Art was patient and guided me at times with just a few words. Everyone loved his discreet manner. May God accept Art into his Kingdom and unite him with all his lost loved ones, friends and comrades who have preceded him. We pray for his soul and God have mercy on him for human indiscretions. He is in a better place now that he may eternally rest in peace. Amen
