Welcome to the memorial page for

Robert John Maier

June 22, 1940 ~ June 24, 2016 (age 76) 76 Years Old

ROBERT JOHN MAIER, of Sea Isle City, NJ and Ft. Myers, FL, passed away suddenly on Friday, June 24th, 2016 with his family in the British Virgin Islands.  He was 76 yrs. of age.  Born in Newark, NJ, he is the son of the late John & Alice Maier.  He studied for a BS Degree in Mathematics at Upsala College, East Orange, NJ and Operations Research at the American University Graduate School, Washington, DC. He worked for a grocery store and the US Postal Service before moving into computer applications for RCA Service Company.  After seven years of developing scientific and commercial applications, he founded Compset Systems Consultants, Inc. in 1970.  For 46 years he successfully led the company through a constantly changing technological environment, from mainframe computers, microprocessors, personal computers, desktop publishing and the Internet.  In 1998, he founded SMART Travel Technologies and created MailPound. He was very proud to work with his three daughters, and after semi-retiring a few years ago, he continued to provide guidance to keep the company moving forward.  His wisdom and advice will be greatly missed, but his daughters will continue to grow the company and make him proud.  He is a member and Past Commodore of the Yacht Club of Sea Isle City, where he was very active with the Fourth of July Olympics.  In recent years, he was always at the club to help with the sailing program and was very proud when two of his grandsons took up sailing.  Bob had many friends, some of whom he had known for almost sixty years. He made a point to keep in contact with friends and family and was always there to help when needed.  He also had many four-legged friends. He volunteered at the Gulf Coast Humane Society in Ft. Myers every day.  He enjoyed being there, cleaning cages and walking the dogs. He often hit his 10,000 step FitBit goal while he was there.  When he came to Sea Isle City this year, he volunteered at the Beacon Animal Rescue to continue helping the animals.  Bob was a great friend to many, but he was everything to his family.  He had an especially close relationship with his children and grandchildren.  When he lived in Mt. Laurel, he brought flowers to his daughters every weekend and after moving to Sea Isle City, would bring flowers whenever he was in the area.  He loved to make people happy and bringing flowers was just one of the ways he brought happiness. He was very proud of his grandchildren and had just seen his oldest grandson graduate from the Merchant Marine Academy and enjoyed hearing stories from his oldest granddaughter, who is studying in Japan. He loved to take his family on vacations, from cruises to sailing in the British Virgin Islands.  He was enjoying the company of his family in the British Virgin Islands when he suddenly passed. We are forever grateful to know his last few days were filled with much love and happiness and he was doing what he loved – boating with the family.  He is the Beloved Husband of Patricia (nee Ball) Maier of Sea Isle City, NJ and the Loving Father of Kathy O’Brien and her husband Jay of Mt. Laurel, NJ, Patti Venanzi and her husband Matt of Jupiter, FL and Debbie Maier of Moorestown, NJ, as well as his faithful companion Lacie.  He is the Loving Grandfather of Matthew Venanzi, Caitlyn O’Brien, Alexander Venanzi, Nicholas Venanzi, Zachary Venanzi, Jaclyn O’Brien, Bobby Whitley and Christian Whitley.  He is also survived by his brothers John Fargo and his wife Vi of Austin, TX and Jim Fargo of Basking Ridge, NJ, and his sister Marion Harper of Richmond, VA. Relatives and friends are invited to greet the family on Saturday, August 6th from 9:30 – 11:00 AM at the First Presbyterian Church of Moorestown, 101 Bridgeboro Road, Moorestown, NJ, where a Celebration of his life will be held at 11:00 AM.  Funeral arrangements are under the direction of the BRADLEY & STOW FUNERAL HOME, Medford, NJ.  Memorial donations in Bob’s name may be made to the Gulf Coast Humane Society (gulfcoasthumanesociety.org) where he enjoyed spending part of each day with the animals. (www.Bradleystow.com)
